Thinking back…

Thinking back to the Spring Game I am even more impressed with the progress this year. I thought that Spring game was just awful. They looked like they had no idea what they were doing. I remember thinking that the only position that looked good was TE. HCLL was the right move! The development of the OL alone is incredible! Can you imagine what Coach was thinking when he observed the spring game!?

Sunday thots

for the first time in my 55 years of existence i think we’ve got it right. My friend summed it best “think how many more quarters we were competitive in compared to the last 10 years”
That being said, progress now looks like wins.
I’m really worried about the portal. A lot of guys could leave and go fill roles at more consistent programs

Video Board

It's been awful for a long time but it was especially bad tonight. There are so many blocks that don't work. The portion showing the other college football scores tonight actually appeared redacted. It showed the Alabama beating Auburn 4-2 with no indication of the quarter or whether it was a final. Lots of embarrassing stuff with the stadium but the video board being junk is top of the list.

Power of 8 game conference schedules

SEC has 13 of 14 schools bowl eligible. Big 12 with only 7 of 10. There were 5 SEC schools at 6-6 and 4 of the 5 lost at least one non-con game; only Florida won all 4 non-cons (but won only 2 SEC games). Playing another conference game would have likely knocked out 2 or 3 of those bowl eligible teams. I just wonder at what point the other conferences wise up and drop a conference game? Having bowl eligible teams helps recruiting even though the leagues don't really make any more money in those lower level bowls. It wouldn't surprise me if someone has done an analysis, but leagues playing more conference games seem to have less bowl eligible teams. ACC had 10 of 14 (11 of 15 w/ ND) with an 8 game schedule while Big 10 and 9 of 14 with 9 game schedule. PAC was 6 of 12 (9 game schedule).

Wilson

I know Wilson hasn't played in the first 3 games but he's clearly not there yet. His running hook shot seldom falls and he relies on it constantly. He's not making many shots or free throws. Is it just getting back to playing jitters? I don't see much improvement yet from last years shooting woes. Seems he is not helping much at this point. Does he just need more time maybe?

Situatuonal awareness

Is so important in a game that there are times of opportunity that present themselves as the best chance to win. I think LL and staff have done a real good job in this area.

Watching the finish of regulation between Auburn and Alabama I thought that Auburn totally blew that moment.

With 2 minutes left and Alabama having all its timeouts Auburn has a 3rd and one about their own 30 I believe.

You want to have the outcome dependent on what you can do when you have the ball. They had a break on 2nd down and got nearly 8 yards on a nice run when everyone in the house knows they're gonna run.

So, this is THE moment of the game. Up by 7 points Bama would have to get into the end zone.

Auburn casually walks up and runs a basic play that gets absolutely blown up. They punt on 4th and you know what happened.

Getting those moments right are critical. At that time you try to draw them offside, then take a timeout. You see how they line up and make the call accordingly. I thought Auburn really blew it.

I really appreciate how our staff goes for it a lot on fourth down and how well they do in these situations.

Casey Jersey

I have never put on a college jersey that didn't say Patterson on the back. You will see me at the Spring Game with a Casey Jersey on. I am just so excited about what this young made has done with his 1 chance to succeed. He doesn't get that pass against UT or drops it, he doesn't get another chance and we still don't know who he is. He stepped and showed he was ready and has continued to impress.

Our video board situation versus K-State's

We need to get this crap fixed. It's a problem.

I'm looking for a link to when we last upgraded, will edit if I find it. I know it's been awhile.

Edit, it was 2010: KU press release . I would have used Daktronics press release as I did for KState's, but the releases are so old I think Daktronics took them off of their site; the URLs that come up on a google search take you nowhere.

"Installation of a first-of-its-kind light-emitting-diode (LED) video display from Daktronics, Inc., has begun at the stadium and should be ready for use at Kansas Athletics’ two upcoming events – the Kansas Relays (April 14-17) and the KU Spring Football Game (April 24)."

The new board will measure approximately 28 feet high by 85 feet wide. The technology and its control system will allow for complete flexibility in programming, operating as single giant display or divided into multiple zones (windows) to show a wide variety of statistics, information, graphics, animation, and live and recorded video.
Why do we consistently ignore this stuff while others continually upgrade the fan experience?

Meanwhile, at K-State:

2016: Kansas State Football Facilities to Receive New Video Display from Daktronics

"K-State Athletics is happy to partner with Daktronics on new Carl and Mary Ice Family Video northeast video board at Bill Snyder Family Stadium," said John Currie, athletics director for Kansas State University. "We can't wait for our fans to see this newest enhancement to The Best Fan Experience in the Big 12 when we open the 2016 season in front of our 28th consecutive sellout crowd."

The new video display will measure approximately 38 feet high by 67 feet wide and be placed at the northeast corner of the stadium. There will also be two ribbon displays installed in the field-level team entrances to help enhance the fan entertainment. All new displays will feature a 13HD pixel layout for excellent image quality and contrast with wide angle visibility to appeal to every seat in the stadium.

The display features variable content zoning which allows it to show one large image across the entire display or to show multiple zones. In those multiple zones, it can show any combination of live video, instant replays, scoring and statistic information, animations, and sponsor advertisements."

2020: Kansas State University Upgrades Audio and Video Displays with Daktronics

"Bill Snyder Stadium is set to receive two end zone displays and a ribbon display in the south end zone, a marquee display outside the stadium, two wall-mounted displays in club spaces, and a custom audio system. The two main video displays will each measure 38.5 feet high by 68.5 feet wide and the ribbon display will measure 2.5 feet high by 220 feet long. These three displays will feature 13HD pixel layouts to bring excellent image clarity and contrast to every seat in the stadium."

Big XII returning starters next year?

Assuming no attrition, we'll have 17-18 returning starters next year. That's got to be towards the top of the league, right?

Hard to just look at other teams depth charts and determine, since Super Seniors aren't usually listed as such. I'm pretty sure OSU and ISU were loaded with super seniors this year. I believe it was Tech who went all in on one-year Graduate transfers this year. You've got to think those three teams will definitely take a step back next year. Baylor has 8 seniors starting on offense and 7 on defense- no idea how many of those will return. K-state has several senior starting O-line and lose Skylar.
