HOW PROVIDENCE ADVANCED TO THE SWEET 16:




In the round of 64, Providence, the No. 4 seed in the Midwest Region, defeated South Dakota State, the No. 13 seed, 66-57 in Keybank Center in Buffalo, N.Y. The Friars were led by Noah Horchler (13), Al Durham (13), Jared Bynum (12), and Justin Minaya (9).



In advancing to the round of 32, Providence hit 39 percent (24-of-61) of its field goals, 36.4 percent (8-of-22) of its threes, and 83.3 percent (10-of-12) of its free-throws. The Friars won the battle on the glass, 41-32, dished out 13 assists, and committed 10 turnovers.



Providence, in the second round, defeated Richmond, the No. 12 seed, 79-51. This time around, the Friars were led by Noah Horchler (16), Al Durham (13), A.J. Reeves (12), Nate Watson (10), Jared Bynum (10), and Justin Minaya (9).



Offensively, Providence hit 51.9 percent (28-of-54) of its field goals, 54.5 percent (12-of-22) of its threes, and 78.6 percent (11-of-14) of its free-throws.



Once again, Providence, coached by Ed Cooley, dominated the glass, 38-27. Richmond, as a team, shot just 39.6 percent (21-of-53) from the field, 4.5 percent (1-of-22) from behind the arc, and 38.1 percent (8-of-21) from the free-throw line.
